“ORIENT“ curricula promoted at Municipality Center, Sarajevo

On January 17, 2023. ERASMUS+ Sport project ORIENT – "Young explorers re-discover local communities through orienteering", co-financed by the European Commission and Municipality Centre Sarajevo, was promoted by Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures to school directors and physical education teachers and professors at the premises of the Municipality Center Sarajevo, gathering over 25 participants.

The event began with a brief overview of the ORIENT project by the president of Sarajevo Meeting of Cultures, Prof. dr. Dino Mujkić, followed by a speech from the Major of Municipality Center, Mr. Srđan Mandić.

Orienteering can play a crucial role in the process of community building. Through the practice of orienteering, people can have a more in-depth knowledge of their local reality and look at their environment under a new light. To harness the potential of orienteering, the ORIENT consortium has published the curriculum, designed to be a learning tool for sport trainers and CSOs workers to integrate orienteering into their practices with young people.

The aim of the promotion of the project and ORIENT curriculum was to popularise the sport of orienteering among school teachers, encouraging them to integrate orienteering into their regular classes and extracurricular activities. Orienteering is a sport that requires participants to navigate through unfamiliar terrain using a map and a compass. It helps in developing a wide range of skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork. Incorporating orienteering into school activities can be beneficial for both students and teachers. Students will be able to learn new skills, improve their physical fitness, and develop a greater appreciation for the natural world, while teachers will be able to use orienteering as a tool to teach a wide range of subjects, and they will also be able to engage their students in a fun and exciting activity.
