“TCCWB” – approved!

✅ The Erasmus+ project titled "Supporting development of TransCultural Competence for healthcare professionals in the Western Balkans" - TCCWB has been approved for funding!

The TCCWB project was established in partnership with Belgium, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Finland, aiming to enhance the capacity of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and Albania to develop materials that enable students of health studies to provide culturally competent care to all users, including migrants. Both EU and non-EU countries share responsibility for protecting the rights of migrants, and transcultural competence among healthcare professionals is crucial for respecting their dignity and rights. Collaboration between these countries is essential for migrant integration. Understanding cultural differences and legal frameworks can prevent ethical problems and promote a humane approach to migrant care. Educational programs aim to equip healthcare workers with the knowledge and skills necessary for fair treatment of migrants in healthcare facilities. Creating a new study program focused on transcultural competence will benefit both teachers and students, supporting care for diverse populations and facilitating the integration of students with migrant backgrounds in HEIs in the Western Balkans.

Objectives of the project:

  • Development and innovation of teaching methodologies to integrate transcultural competencies in nursing education, both pre- and post-registration, aimed at enhancing the skills of the healthcare workforce
  • Creation of future-oriented curricula tailored to the needs of nursing students and nurses, emphasizing transcultural nursing content and utilizing distance and digital learning methods to support learners and practitioners in becoming more competent caregivers
  • Promotion of digital higher education and the incorporation of digitalization into nursing curricula, fostering innovation and modernization in nursing education
  • Focus on the most vulnerable populations and the values, beliefs, and customs of healthcare recipients, with the aim of fostering active citizenship among nursing students and faculty in Albania and BiH
  • Emphasis on transcultural communication across various healthcare settings (primary, tertiary care, community nursing, etc.), addressing the development of essential 'soft skills' for life and work in healthcare professionals
