Orienteering Training within the ORIENT project

As part of the Erasmus+ project Young Explorers Rediscover Local Communities Through Orienteering - ORIENT, a training was held for sports coaches, representatives of non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders. The training was held at the premises of the Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina, May 30.-31.2022.

The aim of the training was to educate participants about the basics of orienteering and the possibilities of using orienteering as a sport and recreation for social inclusion in urban and natural environments through teamwork, inclusion and cultural exchange.

The training consisted of three theoretical modules: "Module I: Orientation - Basics and Opportunities" focused on sports for social inclusion, rules and characteristics of orienteering, orientation in urban contexts and the natural environment, and participants learned how to organize orienteering competitions.

"Module II: Building an Inclusive Environment" was dedicated to the topics of young people at risk of social exclusion, needs and challenges, methodologies for establishing an inclusive environment and establishing an inclusive environment and promoting teambuilding.

"Module III: Mapping for Inclusion, from Location to Action" focused on the learning outcomes that young people will achieve, mapping for learning: understanding the link between place and people and mapping the community.

The final session of the training encompassed practical experience during which participants had the opportunity to apply what they learned through a workshop and real orienteering tools (map, compass, control points, etc.).

Orienteering is an exciting and challenging sport and recreational activity that combines the use of body and mind outdoors. It's about finding your way and the right route through natural landscapes or modern urban settings!
